Ontario Ministry of Labour's new laws
As we all know Ontario’s economy, like others around the globe, has changed. Work is different and, for many workers, less secure. Many people struggle to support their families on part-time, contract or minimum-wage work, and a lot of them are not able to take some time off due to illness.
In order to create more opportunity and security for workers in this changing economy, Ontario Government has introduced the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017. It was passed on November 22, 2017.
Some of the highlights are:
· Equal pay for equal work
· Fairer scheduling rules
· A minimum 3 weeks’ vacation after 5 years with the same employer
· Up to 10 individual days of leave without the fear of loosing job
